Every Medal Tells a Story

This collection hangs in my room as a reminder of the different reasons I have run races. They are all a great achievement for myself and others along the way.
City2Surf ’09 & ’10 were with a friend who had lost a significant amount of weight and wanted to challenge herself.
City2Surf ’12 was in memory of my Aunty Marg and to fundraise for the @ccnewsouthwales. It was alongside Tristan and I beat my previous time by an hour.
Winery Run 2016 was a training run for my half marathon. It was my first race alone and was while I was on a hens weekend. I prioritised my health over drinking ALL the wine. But found a way to still enjoy the wine sensibly.
Blackmores Half Marathon 2016 was my biggest race ever and saw Serena & I raise over $3000 for @cantoorunswim . I completed the 21.1kms with my son and husband at the end. It was a special day as I’d never had anyone waiting at the end for me before.
SMH Half Marathon Relay 2017 was the opportunity for Serena and I to share a half marathon distance with my sister Kerrianne and Tristan. It was Tristan’s first event after knee surgery. It was a big challenge for us all but great to be there to support one another.
What’s next…? I’ve decided that I’m happy with 10kms for now so aiming for the Blackmores 10km bridge run in September. I’m going to focus on running a great race instead of pushing the distance limits.

Why Boyfriends Make Us Fat

In relationships it’s easy to blame our boyfriends or husbands for making us fat. Facebook memories have again reminded me of the wonderful things I have shared over the past almost 10 years. There seems to be an ongoing theme of wanting to get back to the gym (again). Last week I saw a post from 7 years ago saying that I was getting back to the gym as boyfriends make me fat. I realise that over the years my weight has gone up and down depending on my relationship status. It made me reflect on why boyfriends make us fat.  I started to think about what changes occur alongside this new found attraction. Can you relate to any of these?  Feeling of Missing Out I’m not a coffee drinker and my husband is.  I notice that feeling of missing out when he goes for his coffee run. I want something too. I don’t need it but I don’t wanna miss out. Often I will choose to get something I will drink or some kind of treat that I really don’t need. Once I recognised this feeling, I have started saying “No”. No is a powerful word as you recognise what it is you need instead of being ruled by the feeling of missing out. Give it a try and take a look at why you choose to eat or drink those treats. Men Generally Need More Food I speak generally in this case as it all relates to BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) meaning that their daily need for calories is higher if they are a larger build than you. Add in a physical job and potentially bigger weights that they can lift and you can see a large gap in their needs compared to yours. When sitting down to dinner you see them eating a big delicious meal and think why can’t I eat all of that? Your portion should be smaller but it’s just so delicious so you have a little more… and a bit more until you have eaten way more than you should have. Focus on your own portions and understand what your body needs. Men Seem To Lose Weight Faster Have you ever been in a relationship when a guy says “Oh I’m putting on weight, better do something about that” and BAM! Weight gone! It is enough to drive you insane and into a spiral of emotional eating. Men generally have a higher metabolism due to their higher proportion of muscle mass compared to women. This means that their muscle mass burns calories faster than us. They usually don’t have the hormonal issues that we have to deal with either. To deal with this, we need to focus on ourselves. Try not to compare and put ourselves down for not losing weight as fast. With persistence, we will get there too.  Priorities Change How we spend our time definitely changes once we become a couple. We used to spend our single days at the gym and nights out dancing up a storm. We choose the comfort of the couch or eating out at restaurants to spend quality time with our new love. What this usually leads to is eating more, exercising less and weight gain occurs. To tackle this we need to find new ways to be active together and seek out adventure instead of watching others have adventure on the TV.  Emotional Eating This one is a biggie! Sometimes relationships go bad or aspects of relationships get us down. Other times we are under a lot of stress or pressure. We hide our feelings with food as we refuse to talk about what is really going on. It’s hard to talk about your problems as you feel that there are others going through worse so we should just be quiet. No one wants to hear our whinging right? Well maybe this needs to change. We need to find a way to speak, whether it’s to our friends, family or even a counsellor. We need to deal with the feelings instead of burying them.   Once you are aware of these habits or emotions, you can take a step towards making changes. Realise the feelings that are leading you to eating more than you need and deal with them. Dressing For Your Weight Loss Journey

Antoinette is your Personal Stylist. She has been helping women in the Macarthur Region and beyond to dress for their body shape and with what colours to wear. She runs small workshops, comes to your home to find hidden gems in your wardrobe and can even take you shopping to find key items to provide you with a wide variety of outfits to wear. She has a wonderful facebook page where she shares her own outfits and loves finding a good bargain. The girls from our current 12 Week Challenge have decided that they would like to reward themselves with a workshop with Antoinette once they achieve their goals. In the meantime I have asked Antoinette to give us her tips for dressing for your weight loss journey.  I’m often asked how do I dress during my weight loss journey?   What do I buy and how do I put together? Congratulations for taking on a weight loss journey, during this time your weight will fluctuate and you will see changes in your body shape. You may have a defined waist, thinner thighs or a flatter bottom. Here are 9 tips that will help you look and feel amazing during your weight loss journey.

  1. Invest in everyday basics to suit your life style and personality. You may ask what are basics? For some of us it maybe two pairs of jeans, dress pants, skirt, and a dress.  Don’t forget T-shirts, singlets and vests can be used to create an individual look.
  2. Purchase some trendy accessories in the season’s colours. You accessories will take a plain garment to a head turning outfit.
  3. Purchase garments that have a stretch to them, avoid stiff bulky fabrics.
  4. Look for flat fronted pants and skirts.
  5. Choose an investment colour and three fashion colours to help you create a mix and match wardrobe.
  6. When choosing a printed garment make sure the print flows through the middle of the garment this will help disguise the tummy.
  7. Just remember it’s all about balance and proportion. If you are wider in the hips, wear dark colours on you bottom half and lighter coloured tops. Add a statement piece of jewellery or a printed scarf to draw the focus toward your upper body.
  8. Don’t drown your new body shape with too much fabric. Look for garments that skim your body shape.
  9. Good luck everyone and don’t forget to treat yourself with a garment at each milestone. Don’t wait till you’ve reach your goal. You need to see the results as they occur.
