2016 New Year’s Resolution: The Results

2016 New Year’s Resolution: The Results

Earlier this year I shared a different way to look at creating New Years Resolutions. It involved using three words to describe how you will live your year. Read my original blog, Make a Powerful New Year’s Resolution. As we head towards the end of the year, it’s time to assess how I went. Here are the results of my 2016 New Year’s Resolution. My three words chosen were; “Structure”, “Grow”, “Nurture”. In general, looking at these words, I think I have managed to create plenty of things that fit well into these words and created a wonderful year for us. Structure In choosing this word I knew that my life, both business and personal needed structure. I figured out how to structure my calendar which lead to me being able to identify my massage availability. I was then able to advertise this to you on Facebook and this helped more clients get bookings. Structure also allowed me to manage the crazy times when Tristan was recovering from his injury or surgery. I was able to adjust my schedule to suit as I had a great structure in place. Another area that needed structure was our 12 Week Challenge. I tried my hardest to keep that going but found that structure was not so much the problem, but motivation. People were excited in the first weeks and motivation dropped off as life got in the way. I decided that I needed to be realistic and dropped the program. We are here to support you and guide you through making these healthy lifestyle changes at any time when life happens. Clients would only focus in those times and give up if something took them off track. We want to be able to help naturally, as opposed to a forced timeframe or format so structure didn’t work here but that’s ok. We need to recognise where things need adjusting.  Grow Well this word related to Growing personally as well as in our business. This year has been another huge year of Personal Growth. It saw me facing my fears of Public Speaking where I presented at Networking meetings and sharing my story at our wonderful Optimising You Event in September. Ialso completed my first Half Marathon, raising over $3000 alongside Serena Ryan. From there I have also become a Qualified Recreational Running Coach. In February I begin to Coach our South West Sydney Can Too Training Pod. I am also in the process of studying further as a Post Natal Fitness Specialist.  Our business has grown from my one little massage room in Queen Street to our own clinic in Lindesay Street. We now have 4 rooms, reception and waiting area. We also had Jamie join us as a Massage Therapist. With the purchase of Infinity Health, we now formally run fitness classes in Campbelltown and Camden areas on their own timetables. Also, having Tristan in the business full time means we have a full time dedicated Personal Trainer to take on individual clients and small private groups. In 2017 we already have new opportunities happening for Tristan with a regular School Group and more families, couples getting married and workmates ready to get fit. We will be hiring more staff as we have the space and the demand so if you would like to discuss joining us, please ask. We love to help people live their dreams.  Nurture While I am always caring for my clients and their needs, I sometimes put my needs last. This year, I committed to getting a massage every 4 weeks and sometimes more often. The changes in my body were noticeable and I don’t have near as many headaches or pain as I used to experience. I should know better but it’s something I have really worked on. I need to be fit and well to enable me to help others, so self care became a big theme of this year. I projected this image to my clients too as I was now practising what I preached. Overall I think the concept of choosing three words to live by has been a successful approach to 2016. I have created my Three Words for 2017 and look forward to sharing these with you soon. It’s taking plenty of thought and time to make sure I identify the right ones.  I would love to hear from those of you who selected three words for 2016 and how your year went. Contact Us here.

Saying Yes To The Dress

Saying Yes To The Dress

In just under 12 months, Kristina gets to walk down the aisle to the man of her dreams. At the time of their proposal, she was already on a journey to get fit, healthy and thinking of a future of becoming a mum. She wanted to make sure her body was feeling great, moving well and was strong. Once she said “Yes” things got serious and it was time to Say Yes to The Dress. Kristina started as part of our Outdoor Group Training Classes. She is now one of our Personal Training Clients and added a 1 hour PT session per week to the program. She chose her wedding dress and wanted to step up her game to make sure she could fit into the dress she has purchased. It didn’t fit at the time she bought the dress but this just added to her determination. When we first commenced Personal Training with Kristina, she was working her butt off and seeing limited results. We changed her training and nothing moved. We got her to complete food diaries and reviewed everything she was sharing with us. She had a great meal plan for the week and generally stuck to it. There was no simple reason for her to have no weight loss.  As a Personal Trainer, we take it personally when our clients don’t get results. I had previously written a blog, Why are you not losing weight? The blog covered some more complex reasons as to why people were not losing weight, despite all their efforts. Kristina took herself to the doctor and after some testing it was discovered she had Insulin Resistance and required medication.  Once she commenced medication, her body kicked into gear and the weight started falling off. With continued healthy eating, exercise and medication, she has now lost a total of 16kgs. And most importantly her wedding dress fits wonderfully. Now we all have to wait another 11 months to see her in the dress to fully understand the impact her results have on her dream wedding. With so many months to spare, she has made it and we are very proud. If you are truly honest with yourself about your diet, exercise and are not seeing any results, please speak to your doctor about what could be happening in your body. It could be a simple fix and you too could be well on your way to reaching your goals.

Celebrating Your Triumphs

Celebrating Your Triumphs

This week I have seen some amazing changes occur right before my eyes. As a Personal Trainer it’s the best part of my job. My clients are doing things they tell me they couldn’t a few short weeks ago. They are taking on challenges with such motivation and seeing the results of their hard work in so many ways. I think it’s time I start sharing and celebrating your triumphs girls. With just 4 weeks to go on our 12 Week Challenge, let’s see what else we can achieve. My Mighty Weightlifters On Friday our numbers had dropped down to 2, due to school holidays and the cold weather. I decided to make a last minute change of venue and brought the girls into my garage. We introduced Peita to the barbell. Nic has been having Personal Training sessions for 2 months now so she had been introduced before. We started off with some light deadlifts for technique. I noticed how well they were lifting so I thought I would challenge them by adding 10kgs to the 20kgs bar. They kept smashing it out so I kept upping the weights. I watched their form to make sure of no injuries and they were great each and every time.  Nic lifted 50kgs. Now for those who haven’t met Nic, she is only around 5ft1 and doesn’t weigh much more than she was lifting. She was strong. Such an amazing effort. Peita then took the challenge to lift 60kgs. Now this girl had never lifted a barbell in her life and here she was with 60kgs. She did an awesome job. Peita has only ever done our outdoor training and proved to me that good technique with light weights provides a good foundation for good technique in heavy lifting.  My Saturday Morning Joggers Earlier in the week I set the challenge as I completed the 1km loop without stopping (one of my own personal goals). I was motivating the girls for the Saturday Session. After posting in the Facebook Group I found out Amy had been down there that morning making up for missed sessions and challenging herself. This was so exciting for me as Amy is in the middle of Tax Time so appointments were taking up her training times. And Amy told me when we were goal setting at the beginning of the 12 Week Challenge that asking her to jog 1km was a bit ambitious. In our Saturday Outdoor Training Session she knocked almost a minute from her Tuesday time.   Kristen was another who was not a runner when we first started the 12 Week Challenge, but guess who charged off first up the incline and crossed the finish line first? Yep it was the girl who didn’t run. Oh did I mention Kristen has just recovered from Pneumonia. I know she was proud of her effort as I surely was.  Now my mum is one I am always proud of, even when she’s not proud of herself. She has been through so much this year, including knee surgery. Her surgeon told her she would never run again but clearly mum didn’t take no for an answer. She has now been given the all clear to jog occasionally. She got around the whole 1km loop walking but in a great time. She jogged in parts where she could and listened to her body to know when to stop. Another great moment this week. Our Burpee Queen When Emma started earlier this year, her first goal was to be able to do a burpee by her birthday. She even booked a Personal Training Session so she was 1 on 1 with me with the sole purpose of perfecting her burpee. It hasn’t taken her long but she is now smashing out the burpees. Still unsure of herself, I assure you Emma, you are doing them properly. 500 Burpee Challenge here you come. The Fitbit Goal Crusher I’m not sure how many of you have a Fitbit and the awesome app that goes along with it. But did you know that you can challenge your friends? Well we have a group of fitbit wearers, including myself who get roped into challenges each week by the Goal Crusher herself. Yes Kerrianne, I’m talkingabout you. She hits her 10,000 step goal almost every day and leaves us all for dust. We know how often she trains, but I think she mustn’t sit down when at home either. I’m training people or have massage clients all day and still cannot get the steps to beat her. As much as it frustrates me to lose, it also shows me how hard she is working and another tool that is helping her reach her goals. Hello Skinny Jeans While weight loss was one of the goals set during the 12 Week Challenge, some girls are really noticing the centimetres lost. What better way to notice than finding those old favourite jeans that you can now fit into. I had a few of the group discover old clothes fitting again even if they don’t see the changes in the mirror yet.  There are so many more great stories from my 12 Week Challenge Group so far but I am sure you don’t have all day to hear me gushing over them.
